Most people generally dislike stagnation and are always seeking for how they can improve their lives and move forward. However, the process of moving to the next level is not always a pleasant experience, especially for Christian believers. Moving to the next level may often entail trusting God in difficult times. Interestingly, God sometimes uses the most unlikely and difficult times in our lives to move us to the next level. In many of such situations, you may not even be sure if you are moving in the right direction. It takes an unwavering trust in God to remain calm, obedient to God and to follow Him during such times. There are examples of people who trusted God at very difficult times in their lives and He did not let them down. Let’s look at some of them.
Abraham Left His Homeland to an Unknown Destination
Abraham yielded to God’s call and instruction to leave his native land and move to an unknown place (Genesis 12:1-9). He didn’t have a clue about where he was going, but he quickly obeyed God and departed from his hometown to the unknown destination. Abraham did not try to negotiate with God to give him a hint about where he was going, he just obeyed God out of trust. Abram (as he was known at the time) did not have a clue about where God was taking him. He decided to leave behind everything and everybody he had known all his life. He must have recognized that God’s plan for him was better than what he could think or understand. Trusting God during the challenging times of his life paid off. God did not let him down, several years later, God fulfilled His promises to Abraham.
Joseph Was Taken to Egypt as a Slave
Joseph was sold as a slave boy and sent to Egypt against his wish. It was a painful and harrowing experience for him as a twelve-year-old boy (Genesis 37:18–36). The worse aspect of the pain must have been the fact that his own brothers made him go through that pain. That could have easily been the worst thing that happened to him, but it turned out to be the best thing that happened to Him. God was right there with Joseph every step of the way upholding him amid the hardship and pain of being a slave boy. This certainly was not the future he dreamed and hoped for when he was dreaming. The path of attaining dreams is not always easy, it may take unlikely unforeseen turns and twists.
Gideon’s Expectations were Turned Upside Down
The political situation during the time of Gideon made him to be very timid, but he was a mighty man of valor (Judges 6:11-17). The person who was supposed to be brave and mighty became timid and fearful. This certainly was not the situation he must have anticipated or desired when growing up. The situation was leading him in the opposite direction away from his dream of becoming a warrior and a big champion. However, Gideon had to trust God in this difficult situation and to believe the word the angel told him.
The Natural Tendency to Control Your Life
It is common to try to control things and manage the events of your life when you start perceiving that the events in your life are not working out the way you expected. Many times, things will deteriorate to the point where we become helpless without any control over our lives. That is when God prefers to intervene in our situations. God will not struggle with us for control if we feel and show that we are in charge of our lives.
The Timing of God’s Interventions
He will only intervene when you are tired of struggling to control your life and ready to surrender to Him. Joseph must have given up hope of leaving the prison after getting disappointed by the people he hoped will get him out. Gideon must have resigned his fate to defeat, shame and cowardice when God sent the angel to appear to him. Abraham and Sarah must have given up the hope of having their own child and having their own land when God made a covenant with Him.

The Results of God’s Interventions
When God takes control of your life, He makes all things to become beautiful. Joseph left the prison when God intervened and he became the prime minister, Gideon who was a coward assumed his true status as a mighty man of valor, Abraham became the father of many nations. Nothing is too difficult for God to fix. Your struggle to control your life may be preventing God from intervening in your life. Trusting God in difficult times in your life may be all He needs to bring you out of that situation.

Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner and need Your forgiveness. I believe that You died on the cross for my sins and rose from the grave to give me life. I know You are the only way to God. So now I want to quit disobeying You and start living for You. Please forgive me, change my life and show me how to know You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
