How to Change Your Destiny and Influence the Future – Part II

Have you ever considered what you can do to make the future better for those coming after you? How do you want to be remembered long after you are gone? Will people be grateful that you once passed through this earth or will they be angry when they think about you?

The Bible says that “the Memory of the righteous shall be blessed…” (Proverbs 10:7) What will your memory evoke in people – blessings or curses? The good news is that if you’re reading this now, you have a great opportunity to influence your future and create the kind of legacy you want to be known and remembered for.

Influence the Future

We cannot change the past, but God can take away the consequences of poor decisions made by us or by those who came before us and give us a new start.  So, the next step after putting the past behind is to make the conscious effort to influence the next generation.

Benjamin was a baby when his mother named him Ben-Oni (son of my sorrow) as she took her last breath (Genesis 35:18), but his father knowing the effect that name would have on the boy changed his name to Benjamin meaning son of my right hand.

You must commit to making better choices and decisions that will result in a better future for your children or people coming after you.

Think Generationally

We have heard of (and often seen) generations of families who have great wealth, education, sports skills etc. The secret behind the generational blessings is the decision made by one person in that family to be different and pass it down.

Were you abandoned by your father? God can make you the faithful father of children, showing them what true family is, something you did not have.  Have you been discriminated against? Your experience can be a tool that God will use to reach out to others going through the same experience.

Your changed destiny will be the light for them showing them they need not turn to drugs, sex, gambling, and other vices to quench the pain.

Look for Opportunities to Bless

Joseph in the Bible (Genesis 50:20) was betrayed by his brothers and suffered many years, but his decision to move past their evil deed to him was what saved the family of Jacob and the entire world from famine. What if he had decided to pay them back for their wrong?

The nation Israel would never have been born, for they would have died from starvation. What will you do about your situation? Will you continue to wallow in self-pity blaming everybody, or will you stand up to the challenge to change your present state and help set the path for future generations after you? The choice is yours and I hope you will choose wisely.

Let God be Your Friend

Jesus came as a Jew, not because they were a sacred group of people, but because one man, thousands of years ago, decided to seek God and make Him his friend (Genesis 12:1-3). The results of that friendship brought about the people of Israel and eventually, Jesus. His coming through the people of Israel was a fulfillment of a promise God had made with Abraham.

God also wants to do more in your life and through you. He wants to change your life so that you can influence the lives of those who will come after you for good. He wants to bless you and make you a blessing to several others. All you should do is to grant Him access into your life, He wants to show you great and mighty things that you do not know about. He wants to help you, He wants to be close to you like a friend.

Will you accept Him into your life today? If your answer is YES, pray this simple prayer and mean it in your heart:

Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner and need Your forgiveness. I believe that You died on the cross for my sins and rose from the grave to give me life. I know You are the only way to God. So now I want to quit disobeying You and start living for You. Please forgive me, change my life and show me how to know You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
